Arboretum News
Brighter, better and bigger things coming in spring 2024!
We’re embarking on a €4 million redevelopment of Arboretum Kilquade
Arboretum Kilquade, our store in Co Wicklow, is getting a major make-over, which will see the entire retail and plant area being covered with a roof. This will significantly enhance the shopping experience for our customers.
The development will enable us to add more departments to the garden centre including indoor plants, fashion, kitchenware, and health and wellness. Our signature cafe will have a stunning new location overlooking the exhibition gardens, and there’ll also be a food hall. When the works are complete, the new development plus the 17 exhibition gardens will span an impressive six acres.
We are delighted to have commissioned International garden centre specialist Rabensteiner Gmbh. Based in Italy and Germany, Rabensteiner is renowned for its innovative design approach and expertise in environmental technology and sustainable solutions. This will be the firm’s first Irish project.
Timeline
Arboretum Kilquade will remain open throughout the entire refurbishment period albeit with a pared-back offering. We will operate from a temporary structure that will house the café as well as garden plants, garden care products, tools and gifting ranges. Trading at the specially erected structure will commence on Tuesday 8th August. Construction works start on Monday 14th August, with the new-look store expected to open in spring 2024.
Future-proofing the business
Incorporating sustainable technologies is a particularly important element of this redevelopment to the Doyle family, owners of Arboretum. The newly developed Arboretum Kilquade will benefit from a number of sustainable technology solutions to maximise energy potential and water use. A rainwater harvesting system will be used to water plants in the garden centre while solar panels will generate renewable electricity.
When complete, the state-of-the-art facility will offer an outstanding gardening and lifestyle shopping experience for our customers, with a comprehensive range of garden and lifestyle products. Our popular café will seat 100 diners. It will truly live up to our brand promise – your home and garden heaven.
Thank you for your patience during the redevelopment. We promise it will be worth the wait!
Barry Doyle, Fergal Doyle and everyone at Arboretum.
