Taking a Moisture Reading:

1. Make sure the soil is moist and the probe is clean
2. Push the probe into the soil at an angle to reach near the roots of the plant and not the stem.
3. A reading between 1, 2 & 3 means that the plant will require watering. A reading between 8, 9 & 10 means that the plant is too wet. Allow to dry out and then take another reading in a day or so.
4. Before storing, clean and dry the probe well.
5. Please note: Without soil, the meter will not return a reading.

Taking a pH Reading:

1. Make sure the soil is moist and the probe is clean
2. Push the probe into the moist soil up to about 12cm deep and wait 60 seconds to take a reading. Take two to three readings in different places.
3. A reading of 7 is pH neutral. Between 3 and 7 is acid. To make the soil more alkaline, for every 1 pH add approx 300 grammes per square metre of lime. Between 7 and 10 is alkaline. To make the soil more acid, for every 1 pH add approx. 70 grammes per square metre of sulphate of ammonia.
4. Check your plant instructions for the conditions it requires. Clean the probe before storing and dry well.
